Today, July 3, the team from St. Nicholas National Shrine at the World Trade Center in New York held a workshop at the 2024 Clergy-Laity Congress entitled “Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine’s Impact and Ministries.”

Led by Reverend Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Andreas Vithoulkas, the President of the Parish Council, Demetri Papacostas, the Executive Director Andrew Veniopoulos and Master Chanter Dimitri Katsiklis, the session reviewed the history, mission and ministries of the Shrine. Presenters highlighted the parish’s accomplishments since its opening and explained the future plans for the shrine to capitalize on its status as an Orthodox witness to the nation and the world.

On September 11, 2001, the original St. Nicholas Church was destroyed when the Twin Towers fell as a result of the terrorist attack. It was the only house of worship destroyed on 9-11. Now, more than 20 years later, after the relentless work of many and the unwavering support of our communities, St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine was consecrated on July 4, 2022, at a moving ceremony, presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America.
