The fire that broke out on Thursday afternoon in a forested area in Stimaga, Corinthia, remains out of control.
Reports indicate that the nearby settlements of Stimaga, Daphne, and Koutsi are not in danger.
Strong aerial and ground firefighting forces have been deployed since the fire started, given the challenges posed by the dense vegetation and the terrain. In total, 19 aerial units (11 aircraft and 8 helicopters), 140 firefighters with 6 ground teams, and 45 vehicles are involved in the operation. The municipality, region, and military are also providing assistance with water tankers and earthmoving equipment.
In the afternoon, the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection held a coordination meeting with relevant ministries and agencies, local government, and all security forces.
The mayor of Velo mentioned a water supply issue in the area, stating that water is being delivered to the villages by tankers. “We narrowly avoided disaster thanks to the water tankers. We are making a tremendous effort with the volunteers,” emphasized Thanos Manavis.
