Hatzidakis warns against populism
BREAKING News
National Economy and Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis warned against populism and stressed that the geopolitical conditions require even more fiscal sensibility than before.
Addressing the Real Industry Summit on Wednesday, Hatzidakis said: “The international uncertainty is one more reason for us here in Greece, who have secured – especially since 2023 – much-desired political stability and economic growth stronger than the European average, to maintain these achievements. These two are not self-evident, given, or automatically mastered. On the contrary, if the known pathologies of the political system prevail and we give in to populist temptations, they could be lost. I have an obligation as the minister of national economy and finance to note this and to invite everyone, not to agree with the government – in democracy differences are useful – but to try to operate with maximum national responsibility.”
He added: “The international uncertainty is one more reason to continue the implementation of an economic policy mix, which has proven to produce results even in adverse conditions. In this way we will be able to continue the upward trend and not waste the efforts of the Greek people, the workers and the businesses themselves. Because progress is not the result of government policy alone. It is also the result of the efforts of the workers and businesses that invest in the country. And we should not underestimate our efforts and their results.”
