Forty Georgian and Pakistani nationals will be deported to their countries of origin on Tuesday, following the final rejection of their applications for asylum, the Migration and Asylum Ministry has said.

The police are organizing the deportation of the 40 individuals. An official from the EU’s border agency Frontex will also be present at the deportation.

The ministry said that after resolving an issue with interpreters, they have speed up the reception, registration and granting of asylum, which in turn has led to a reduction in the number of detainees in 33 immigration facilities by 3.8% in a month.

Currently, it said that just over 26,000 individuals are detained these facilities, down from nearly 28,000 on the previous month.

The nearly 2,000 individuals who have left the facilities are third-country citizens who have either left Greece for other countries after being granted asylum, or asylum applicants/refugees who were granted asylum who are now allowed to work and are covering the labor shortages in agriculture and construction sectors.
